PlayStation (console)
PlayStation is a 32-bit home video game console that was first developed by Sony Computer Entertainment and released in Japan on 3 December 1994, and later it launched in North America and Europe. PlayStation is part of the 5th gen of video games, and it plays an important role in promoting CD-ROM in the gaming industry.
HISTORY & ITS DEVELOPMENT
The PlayStation was first developed in the late 1980s. At that time, Sony had entered into an agreement to create a CD-ROM add-on for Nintendo's Super NES console. However, due to commercial differences later on, the deal fell through. Following this, under the leadership of Sony engineer Ken Kutaragi, the company decided to build its own gaming console. Ken Kutargiis is considered the father of PlayStation today.
FEATURES & IMPACT
For this time, Play Station was a truly revolutionary product. It had the capability to process 3D graphics easily. Using cheaper CD-ROMs with higher storage space instead of cartridges made it easier for developers to create large games with better soundtracks and richer details. In addition, the vibration feedback and analog sticks of its dual shock controller completely transformed the gaming experience.
SUCCESS
PlayStation is counted among the most successful consoles in gaming history. It became the first gaming platform to sell over 100 million units worldwide. Many famous game franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, Final Fantasy VII, and Resident Evil became popular because of this console. In the year 2000, Sony also released a smaller, redesigned version of it named the PS one.
