Pratt ने isostasy को समझाने के लिए अपनी परिकल्पना को प्रस्तुत किया है । इसके लिए उन्होंने different desity , same weight तथा different height के लकङियो को Mercury से भरे पात्र मे तैराया जिसमे उनका सन्तुलन बना बराबर हो गया ।
जिसे pratt hypothesis के नाम से जाना जाता है ।
