की सूची है। रेल परिवहन के उपयोग को माल ढुलाई और यात्री परिवहन के लिए क्रमशः टन-किलोमीटर (टी. के. एम.) या यात्री-किलोमीटर (पी. के. एम्.) में मापा जा सकता है। यहां यात्रियों द्वारा कि गईऔसत यात्रा दूरी की संख्या दर्शाई गई है। सारांश विश्व स्तर पर, रेल माल ढुलाई का परिवहन लगभग 10,000 अरब टन-किलोमीटर (९.८४२ अरब टन-मील लम्बी दूरी या ११.०२३ अरब टन-मील छोटी दूरी, प्रति वर्ष की सीमा तक किया जाता है,)
