From de gmh miltau, from de goh miltau, from goh militou, from de gmw-pro *milidauw, from de gem-pro *milidawwaz; equivalent to gem-pro *mili honey + gem-pro *dawwō dew. The modern form through a secondary coincidence with de Mehl flour, which is due to the regular vocalic development in Low German and some dialects of Central German; compare gml mēldouwe, from osx milidou.
