Dutch
Etymology
First attested as Ospel in 1612 and 1621. Difficult to interpret due to a paucity of old attestations. Potentially a compound of a variant of dum espe aspen (Populus tremula species) and nl lo light forest or a contraction of nl oost east, eastern and nl peel swamp, marsh.
