dunst
German
Etymology
From de gmh dunst, gmh tunst, from de goh tunst, from de gem-pro *dunstą haze, mist, dust, evaporation. Related to en dust.
The onset d- is already predominant in Middle High German, thus due to irregular re-voicing. The expected form tunst disappears in early modern German under the reinforcing influence of Central and Low German (compare gml dūst, from osx thunst).
