German
Alternative forms
de Peschmerge
Etymology
de ckb پێشمەرگە. The use of -a for the final vowel is probably influenced by other European languages (including English) where this is done to avoid a fronted pronunciation of the letter -g-. The Kurdish vowel is the same in the last two syllables (phonetically [æ]).
Pronunciation
de /pɛʃˈmɛrɡa/ /ˌpeːʃ-/
de De-Peschmerga.ogg <<Germany>> (<<Berlin>>)
Noun
m,(s),-:s:Peschmergen:Peschmerge
Peshmerga Kurdish fighter
Usage notes
The form de Peschmerge seems to be somewhat more common in the plural than the singular, meaning that there is probably a false belief among some language users that it is a plural form (likely based on the Italian plural formation as in it pizza → it pizze).
Declension
m,(s),-:s:Peschmergen:Peschmerge
