English
Etymology
Ultimately from en grc κρᾶσις mixing, tempering, often via en la -crāsia and, additionally, en fro -crasie.
Pronunciation
en /-kɹəsi/ GA,RP
Suffix
temperament, constituent pattern.
Usage notes
Because -crasy and en -cracy are homophones, and the former is comparatively much rarer, the two suffixes are often mistakenly conflated in the latter spelling, thus giving rise to such common misspellings as en idiosyncracy.
