Etymology
fi huopa- lahti bay bay. Originally a Tavastian name fi *Haapalaksi (from fi haapa aspen + fi laksi, the original form of fi lahti bay bay). This name was borrowed into Swedish sv *Håplax (with the standard Swedish vowel shift /aː/ → /oː/). This form and the current fi sv - form sv Hoplax (/-uː-/, through spelling pronunciation) have then been reborrowed back into Finnish. While the latter component was correctly recognized as fi lahti bay, the initial one was mistakenly - or rather folk-etymologically - interpreted as fi huopa felt.
