Etymology
First attested as dat dorpe 't gene hoit in 1381. Compound of a dialectal form of nl Arnold a personal name, the definite article nl ge and nl hout rising deciduous forest. The personal name was added at a later date to distinguish the settlement from nl Kleingenhout.
