Usage notes
Both the terms Borneo and en Kalimantan have been used to refer the whole island, yet the differences are mainly dialectal. Borneo is used in all three countries; while the usage of Kalimantan is restricted into Indonesia, or referring to the Indonesian portion in the strictest sense. In the past, the latter term was also used in Brunei and Malaysia, mainly by left-wing militant groups that were once supported by the Guided Democracy in Indonesia Old Order (e.g. North Kalimantan Communist Party).
