Etymology
Learned from it la Crotōn or la Crotō, ultimately from it grc Κρότων.
Historically known as it Cotrone from the Middle Ages until 1928, when the ancient spelling was restored and imposed, because of the Fascist toponymical policies. It is still called scn Cutrona in the local Sicilian-calabrian dialect. Compare the surname it Cutrona, which is borrowed from the scn Cutrona.
