fi Kalla vesi. Possibly from a mythologized use of a fi smi word for "old man" (se gállis), or more likely from fi kallas bank of a body of water because of the steep lakeshores.Alpo Räisänen: Kallavesi ja muita Savon paikannimiä, in Virittäjä 1/2009 First attested as fi Kalawesi in 1461.
