From tr ady Астэмыр and tr kbd Астэмыр. Historically common among Caucasian nobility, it is believed to be a compound of Alanic/Ossetian and Turkic elements (such as trk-pro *temür iron). This specific form and usage is unique to the North Caucasus and came to Turkey via the Circassian diaspora.
