Usage notes
Unlike in Czech and Slovak, female equivalents of surnames are usually not used when referring to a female person by her full name, instead using the masculine form (where it is indeclinable, e.g. rsk з Ану Ковач with Ana Kovač instead of rsk *з Ану Ковачом). They are generally only used when the first name of the person is omitted, although there are some (dated) exceptions such as rsk Гайдукова. This is also sometimes done with masculine surnames and appending rsk -ов, such as rsk Джуджаров from rsk Джуджар, however this is less common.
In Czech and Slovak, when a surname ends in cs -ský, sk -sky, cs -cký or sk -cky, the feminine equivalent is cs -ská or sk -cká etc., i.e. the surname declines as an adjective. But in Pannonian Rusyn, rsk -ски surname and rsk -цки-class surnames are treated as nouns and more often than not have noun-type declension (in the singular), thus resulting in their feminine equivalents being rsk -скова and rsk -цкова rather than rsk -ска and rsk -цка, even though adjectives with these endings are still declined as such. However, those feminine equivalent surnames are declined as feminine adjectives in Pannonian Rusyn, even though the masculine forms are not; see "Declension" for the adjectival declension. This also applies to other surnames derived from adjectives, such as rsk Мали small; compare the feminine equivalent rsk Малийова (not rsk *Малова) to cs,sk Malá, from sk Malý.
As seen with rsk Малийова, if a surname ends in rsk -и, adjectival or otherwise, rsk -й- is typically appended before the surname is suffixed with rsk -ова. This is generally in agreement with the oblique forms of the base surname, e.g. rsk Малия being the singular genitive form of rsk Мали. However, the appending of rsk -й- only occurs in the singular masculine form for rsk -ски surname and rsk -цки surname-class surnames. Such surnames have rsk -скова and rsk -цкова as the feminine forms, but rsk -скийови and rsk -цкийови as the most common singular dative/locative forms. In the plural, rsk -сково and rsk -цково are used, not rsk *-скийово or rsk -цкийово. For instance, rsk Будински has the singular dative/locative form rsk Будинскийови, but the female equivalent is rsk Будинскова rather than rsk *Будинска or rsk *Будинскийова.
