Dutch
Etymology
First attested as Caustert in 1619. Compound of nl laag low, lower and nl kalverstaart calf's tail. The toponym is either a perjorative designation for a piece of land with an irregular shape or refers to a former inn. The element nl laag was added at a later date to distinguish the settlement from nl Hoog-Caestert.
