From Old Limburgish li sambaztag Sabbath day, from li got *𐍃𐌰𐌼𐌱𐌰𐍄𐍉, an alteration (possibly dialectal) of earlier, Biblical got 𐍃𐌰𐌱𐌱𐌰𐍄𐍉. The altered Gothic form derives from li grc-koi σάββατον Sabbath, from li he שבת.
