Alternative forms
de Geläge obsolete
Etymology
From de gmh gelēge, gmh gelæge a lying, things lying about, from de goh *gilāgi, from de gem-pro *lēgiją *(ga)lēgiją, ablaut derivation from gem-pro *ligjaną, whence de liegen to lie. Cognate with unprefixed non lægi. The form with ⟨e⟩ continues the older Central German spelling, reinforced by analogy with related de legen to lay; hence de ge- legen -e 1.
