Etymology
From got gem-pro *-gaz -y, -ic, from got ine-pro *-kos, ine-pro *-ḱos -y, -ic.
Suffix
adjective-forming suffixes
-y, -ic; forms adjectives from nouns and verbs with a sense of 'being, having or doing'.
Usage notes
Usually, this suffix is attached to the full stem of the base word. Thus, the variant got -𐌰𐌲𐍃 (variant got -𐌰𐌷𐍃) is mostly associated with derivations from a-stem nouns, got -𐌴𐌹𐌲𐍃 with derivations from i-stem nouns and got -𐌿𐌲𐍃 with derivations from u-stem nouns. These do not, however, seem to have been fixed rules and occasionally there are atypical derivations, such as got 𐍅𐌿𐌻𐌸𐌰𐌲𐍃 from the u-stem got 𐍅𐌿𐌻𐌸𐌿𐍃 and note the alternation between long and short vowels in got 𐌲𐌰𐌱𐌹𐌲𐍃 (apparently with a suffix -igs) and got 𐌲𐌰𐌱𐌴𐌹𐌲𐍃.
