German
Etymology
16th century, from de gml pocke, from de gem-pro *puhô.
Cognate with nl pok, en pock. Displaced the variants de Poche, de Pfoche, which may go back to related gem-pro *puhô, but are perhaps merely inadequate adaptations of the Low German form. The native High German word for “pock” is de Blatter.
