konter
German
Etymology
From the verb de kontern, from de en to counter (originally in the context of boxing). The noun is probably not derived directly from the verb but as a clipping of the noun de Konterschlag counterstrike, backlash, from de kontern + de Schlag. Compare also the prefix de konter-, from de fr contre, which influenced the phonetic form of these words.
