Luxembourgish
Etymology
From lb gmh milch, from lb goh miluh, from lb gmw-pro *meluk *miluk ~ *meluk, from lb gem-pro *meluks. Cognate with de Milch, nl melk, en milk, da mælk, is mjólk.
The lb - form continues gmh milch, not the uncontracted variant gmh milich, which latter would have yielded lb *Millech (with /i/ in an open syllable). The svarabhakti vowel regularly redeveloped between /l/ and a non-coronal consonant (cf. lb Kallef, Vollek etc.).
