Etymology
An older spelling variant of nb Kaspar and nb Kasper, continuing Medieval Latin la-med Caspar. The name was traditionally assigned to one of the Magi in Western Christianity, although the Magi are not named in the biblical text itself. It is usually explained as ultimately deriving from an Old Persian title meaning “treasurer”, but the precise route into the medieval personal name is uncertain.
The spelling nb Caspar has a longstanding Norwegian tradition, with bearers in Norwegian and Danish–Norwegian society from at least the seventeenth century.
