Etymology
Originally fi *Madelahti, from fi made lahti bay burbot bay. The original Finnish d sound /ð/ was borrowed into Swedish dh, which was later regularly lost, and this form was then reborrowed back into Finnish and folk-etymologically interpreted as fi maa lahti bay 1 land bay.
