Etymology
nb ine-pro *dweh₂-
Compound of nb Aiss dur A-sharp major, literally “A-sharp major”.
The first element nb Aiss A-sharp is the capitalized form of nb aiss, borrowed from nb de Ais A-sharp. The German form consists of the note name de A A and de -is sharp-note-forming suffix; the further origin of the suffix is uncertain. The Norwegian form is synchronically analyzable as nb a A + nb -iss sharp-note-forming suffix.
The second element nb dur major is via nb de Dur major from nb gmh bēdūre B-natural; hard B, from nb la-med b durum hard B. The adjective is from nb la dūrus hard, from nb itc-pro *dūros hard, from nb ine-pro *dweh₂rós long, far, from the root ine-pro *dweh₂- far, long.
