German
Etymology
From de gmh Sephteme, probably from de la septima seventh in a supposed la ad septimam leugam at the seventh league, the place being roughly seven Roman leagues (a bit over 15 km) away from Bonn. The sound shift pt → ft through Primärberührung, the further shift ft → cht through the northwestern, especially Dutch, development, which is amply attested in the Rhineland (cf. lb Griecht, lb Luucht, lb uechter).
