German
Etymology
de gml nichte, from de osx *nifta, from de gem-pro *niftiz.
This form replaced High German (obsolete) de Niftel in the 17th century. It is based on the Low German shift -ft-→ -cht- (compare de Gerücht); hence cognate with goh nift, goh nifta, nl nicht, en nift. Related to German de Neffe nephew. More at en nift, en neve.
