Alternative forms
cy -tid
Etymology
From cy wlm -dit, from cy cel-pro *-tūss, from cy ine-pro *-tuHts. Cognate with la -tus143 iii (10) and gem-pro *-dūþiz.
Pronunciation
cy /dɪd/
Usage notes
/tɪd/ and /dɪd/ are variants of the same suffix. /tɪd/ (phonetically [tʰɪd]) is always spelt cy -tid whereas /dɪd/ would, in theory, be represented by cy -tid after an unvoiced fricative (phonetically [tɪd]) and by cy -did after other voiced sounds (phonetically [dɪd]). /dɪd/, however, does not at present occur in any Welsh words after an unvoiced fricative.

Usage notes
sga -did causes i-affection of internal vowels.
