Compound of the name of the toponym Gommerkarspel and nl wijk neighbourhood, quarter. The name references Gommerkarspel (a compound of the name of Saint Gummarus of Lier and nl dum kercspel parish, village with a church), a village which was fused with Enkhuizen in 1356.
