As is customary, the term 'Low Saxon' is used here as an umbrella term for the dialects of Groningen, Drenthe, Stellingwerf, Salland, West Overijssel, Twente, Achterhoek and Veluwe. The neighbouring Low Saxon-speaking region in Germany was not included in the study.
Low Saxon is spoken across a large part of the Netherlands and Germany.
