Etymology
南無阿彌陀佛, from vi zh 南無阿彌陀佛, from vi sa नमोऽमिताभाय.
The second character zh 無 here having the unusual reading vi mô instead of the typical vi vô is an example of Sanskritized Sino-Vietnamese. Although still in use (see the version used in Vietnam of the Nīlakaṇṭha Dhāraṇī), Sanskritized Sino-Vietnamese is highly restricted to Buddhist texts, and this phrase is probably the lone example of it entering more general Vietnamese usage.
