Etymology
With syncope (probably through influence from the Swedish name sv Köklax) from fi *Kaukalaksi, from fi *kauka long (in modern Finnish fi kauko- far, distant) + fi *laksi bay (older form of fi lahti bay). Originally a name given to a bay, which due to glacial rebound is now merely a river (fi Espoonjoki).
