Dutch
Etymology
First attested as manlande in 1220. Compound of an unclear first element and nl land land. The first element may be cognate with dialectal nl haaiman sandy land located next to or among sand dunes or vls man land which floods slightly, low-lying pasture. An alternative hypothesis conjectures that the first element is a misspelling of dum mare watercourse.
