Originally probably a place name, fi kangos- järvi, a surname from Lapland; the initial component may be related to dialectal fi kangoksissa stuck, pressed between two things (e.g. of a boat between two rocks that is stuck on a rapid) (< fi kankea, fi kangertaa), or alternatively from a fi smi word.
