Etymology
From dialectal fi muurame cloudberry or a variant of fi maamuurain arctic raspberry, referring to the berries found in the area. The village has also been known as fi Muranjärvi, fi Murame and fi Muratjärvi, and the village (after which the municipality was named) was probably named after a lake.
