Pet form of de Josef, de Joseph. Regarding the final -p one might suspect influence by de Jakob, but the southern German equivalent de Sepp seems to imply that the name was formerly pronounced with a final /p/, rather than /f/. At any rate, de Jupp is now associated exclusively with de Josef. Compare also nl Joop.
