First attested as schaveymont in 1396. Derived from nl la cavatus hollowed out and la mons mountain, hill. The current spelling of the name has been influenced by the nearby fr Chêvremont, but there is no etymological link between the two toponyms. Compare nl Kaffeberg and nl Schweiberg.
