From lb Been -chen. The inherited form is lb Bengchen, the modern one is regularized. Compare lb Steenchen. Unlike this latter, lb Beenchen is also regularized in the plural, because the simplex lb Been is invariable (whereas lb Steen becomes plural lb Steng).
