Old Norse
Etymology
non, probably formed from non gmq-pro *gumijaʀ or late non gmq-pro *gymeʀ. Some relate it to non gumi, from ine-pro *ǵʰmṓ earth + non gem-pro *-jaz agent suffix. Others relate it to non gamall or is góa. Compare non gymbr and is gimbill, gimbur and sv gumse. Possibly ultimately derived from ine-pro *ǵʰéyōm 'winter'.
