Finnish
Etymology
In eastern Finland, possibly from a vernacular form of fi ru Демешко, ru Демешка fi -nen. In western Finland, possibly from a vernacular form of some Germanic names fi nen; compare also fi Mäskälä, suggesting an original fi Meska- ~ fi Mäskä-; compare e.g. diminutive forms of de Matthias or de Thomas like de Maschke (although this particular form does not seem old enough to be the origin of the Finnish names), or to the source of fi Masku.
