Catalan
Etymology
Origin unknown, possibly by analogy with third person plural ending ca -aren. This ending displaced ca -ast, the original second person singular preterite indicative ca -ar first-conjugation ending, from Latin la -āvistī, which in turn came from a combination of -āv- (the regular perfect infix for the first conjugation) and la -istī (the second person singular present perfect active indicative ending).
