Etymology
en :bor la:Austria 1
From en la Austria, a Latinization of en goh Ōstarrīhhi, the first element of which means "east" and stems from en gem-pro *austraz eastern, and the second element of which is goh rīhhi realm. See en east, en eastern for more.
Distantly cognate to en Australia: it derives from the same Proto-Indo-European root, but via Latin, where it came to mean “south” rather than “east”. Compare also en Austrasia.
