Turkish
Etymology
From tr ady Андзауыр or tr kbd Андзауыр. Historically associated with the Circassian Ottoman military leader Ahmet Anzavur Pasha. Although regarded as a hero of Islam and the Ottoman Empire by local Circassian populations, he was officially accused of treason by the modern secularist Republic of Turkey. Due to this political taboo and social pressure, the name is now almost nonexistent in Turkey. See also Anzor.
Proper noun
tr male West Circassian, historically used among Circassians in Turkey but now almost nonexistent.
