Usage notes
See the usage notes under fi -vi.
The suffix fi -pi can still be used in some dialects, such as the Savonian and northern Ostrobothnian ones. This usually appears in the end of a single-syllable verb (e.g. fi juoda juo may be expressed as fi juopi).
In certain dialects and in some cases, the suffix is subjected to apocope, reducing it to just fi -p (in this case fi juo is pronounced fi juop).
Sometimes this suffix may even appear in the end of a longer verb, even when said verb still has the usual third-person suffix fi -V (e.g. fi tahtoo becomes fi tahtoopi, even though historically this would have been fi tahtovi).107 Persoonamuotoisen verbin taivutuksesta This is an example of a hypercorrection.
