Etymology
rsk :inh zlw-osk:-ov<ety:inh<sla-pro:*-ovъ>> 2 1 Cognates include cs -ův and sk -ov.
Pronunciation
rsk ɔw 1
rsk ов
Suffix
rsk suffix adjective-forming suffixes
rsk -ови: appended to nouns to form relational adjectives: -y, -al, etc.
rsk highly productive suffix forms possessive adjectives: -'s
rsk -ин f
rsk rare rsk -ова: forms male surnames/honorifics (usually) when the first name is omitted
rsk Джуджар Джуджаров
rsk Кочиш Кочишов
rsk Малацко Малацков
rsk in the plural forms plural forms of male surnames
Usage notes
Only rsk -ови is used to form adjectives denoting colour.
As concerns forming possessive adjectives, this term is the preferred suffix, even for most feminine nouns (which use some variation of -in in other Slavic languages); compare rsk задруґов with sh задругин//zadrugin. This suffix is so productive, that it in fact displaces some Old Slovak forms in -in, such as rsk мамков displacing zlw-osk mamkin.
While rsk -ови in the nominative plural is vanishingly rare in general regardless of adjective type, rsk -ово is the only correct nominative plural form for possessive adjectives.
Unlike rsk -ова, the male surname honorific is most often used in oblique forms rather than the nominative form, e.g. rsk Янкови Малацковому to Janko Malacko.
See usage notes of rsk Сабадош for use in forming plural forms of male surnames.
Like with rsk -о-, there does not exist a "soft" form rsk -ев.
