Dutch
Etymology
Attested as Munnicky in 1680. Difficult to interpret due to a paucity of old attestations. Potentially a compound of nl monnik monk and nl kade quay, embankment or a term denoting an artificial mound used for habitation. An alternative reading of the toponym interprets it as a derivation from a term meaning "dungheap". Compare nl Munnickaij.
