Pronunciation

Etymology 1
From de gmh stüre, gmh störe, gmh store, from de goh sturio, goh sturo, from de gmw-pro *sturjō, from de gem-pro *sturjô.
Cognate with nl steur and la sturio (a Germanic borrowing), whence en sturgeon. The ö-vocalism is expected in de gml stȫre as well as in parts of East Central German, but it appears elsewhere too. This might be explained as a compromise form between gmh stüre and gmh store, which latter shows lack of umlaut and a-mutation instead.
