First attested in a Latin document from 953 as la Villa Euracini, which may be read as 'villa of Euracinus', the latter a name of obscure origin that is otherwise undocumented. The city is also later mentioned as la Verazini (1033), la Verazim (1198), and roa-opt Varazim (1258).
