Suffix
la suffix -rī verb-forming suffixes
Used to form the present passive infinitive of regular verbs, except the third conjugation's ones.
First conjugation: la amārī to be loved — from la amāre to love
Second conjugation: la monērī to be advised — from la monēre to advise
Third conjugation: la dūcī to be led — from la dūcere to lead
Fourth conjugation: la audīrī to be heard — from la audīre to hear
Usage notes
To form it: Take the present active infinitive, remove the final -e, and add -ī; in the case of 3rd conjugation -ere is removed).
The ending appears as -ārī, -ērī, -ī, or -īrī depending on the thematic vowel, but the final vowel is always -ī.
In deponent verbs, the form has active meaning (e.g. loquī = "to speak").
