Dutch
Etymology
First attested as dresem in 1486-1487. Borrowed from nl fy Driezum, potentially derived from a compound of nl ofs Dries a personal name and ofs hēm home, settlement. This etymology, however, would make the toponym highly anomalous: Christian names were introduced to Frisia in a time when the ofs hēm element was no longer productive in toponyms. Compare nl Hanssum and nl Janum.
